Well, we are home today enjoying a snow day!! These are these days that I am so thankful that my sweet husband has returned to teaching. It is so nice to be home together as a family and enjoy the beautiful snow. I thought I would take this chance to update you on what had been going on in our lives.
Brian has been very busy with family, work, and church. First, he started a new appliance/furniture bank ministry at our church. He collects appliances and furniture and finds needy families to give them to. This is a very valuable ministry in Abilene since we have so many refugee families. I am so proud of his desire to serve the Lord. This is something he has been praying about for a while, and it is wonderful to see it taking place. He is also still working with the senior kids at church on Wednesday nights. At work, he is busy with basketball playoffs, soccer, and baseball season. He is gone a lot, but it isn't nearly as busy as the fall. Along with all of this, he got his first real experience at being "Mr. Mom!"
I had the opportunity to travel to Austin for a week and present at the state TCEA convention the second week of February. Brian had Ryleigh for a whole week. I knew he would do great...and he did. I was the one who had small emotional breakdowns on a daily basis. It was the first time I have been away from them, and it was pretty hard on me. Everything went smoothly at home, except that Ryleigh got sick one night and Brian had to take off work to take her to the doctor. Other than that, things were great and he got a lot of practice at fixing hair!!!! HA!! (He did practice for a week before I left!:)
My conference was great! I learned so much and I was so busy! It definitely was not a vacation. I was exhausted every day. I am looking forward to teaching some classes to show all my other coworkers all of wonderful technology tools I learned. I have also been busy at work. I am taking on a few more roles at work and I know that will keep me busy. I still love my job, but I must say I am looking forward to summer already. My evenings are busy playing with Ryleigh, and I cherish every minute of it. Working everyday sure does make me value my home time so much more.
As for Ryleigh, the star of our home, she is doing great!!! She is too smart for her own good. She talks so well that I am constantly amazed at the things she says. She speaks in 6-10 word sentences now. She can retell a story like you wouldn't believe. Her memory is amazing! She can tell you the name of anyone she meets along with where they were at the time. I wish I could remember names like she does. She makes up words to her own songs. Her imagination is so vivid for a 22 month old. She loves to draw pictures (scribbles) and tell me all about them. This morning, for example, she drew snowflakes since it is snowing outside. Her favorite things to do are sing songs, read books, and watch "Super Why" and "Mickey Mouse." She loves school and all her friends. She loves her sitter Shana and her buddies Russell and Judy. She loves to eat at "Donalds" and "Burger King." (Really she just likes to play there.) She enjoys going to church and "Bible cass." She is so caring and she is a cuddle bug. Her newest venture is potty training. We have been trying for a while, but not really pushing it. However, last Thursday night, out of the blue, she pottied in the potty 4 times. Then she did it again last night. I think she is finally getting it down, but I know we still have a ways to go. (However, I think she will do just about anything for "Smarties" or "PEZ."
I really can't believe she will be 2 at the end of next month. I have no idea what "2" will have in store for us, but we will be ready for it. I am sorry I don't have more pictures. My camera battery is dead again, and Brian has ordered us a rechargeable battery. It is not in yet, so I am trying to be patient. I promise I will get more pictures posted as soon as possible.
